On the Comic Book News website, Benjamin Williams has reviewed An Android Awakes by Mike French and Karl Brown. He starts with an outline of the plot (Android Writer PD121928 only has a limited number of attempts to get his novel published or he will be deactivated) and say that this “unique notion is what draws the reader in and leads the book to be a page turner.”
Benjamin says that the Android’s stories are well written and humorous, indeed “very entertaining to the point where you are actually disappointed when the story ends and a new one has to begin.” He goes on to say that there are “some fantastic and funny short stories” and, citing his three favourites, suggests that those three alone would make a book of their own. The stories, he says, have “such vast differences, with plot and characters” that your interest is kept and “it does not fail to keep you engrossed.” He adds that all the stories are “cleverly linked and interweave in subtle ways”, yet you can read each story stand alone.
He says that Mike French’s “writing is superb” and is matched by the “talented artist Karl Brown” whose pictures are a gorgeous addition to the stories that “really add something”. Benjamin concludes by saying that the book is thoroughly enjoyable and Mike and Karl have “achieved something that is to be admired”, and that it is a “must” for fans of sci-fi, Android stories and quality work.
