No, that’s not an admission of lack of cool, but the exciting premise of an evening’s entertainment at the Edge Nightclub in Luton. Mike won’t be alone, there will be other performers of written, spoken and musical work. All under the intriguing title of
Dixie Fried – A beatnik night!
The organisers describe it as…
an off the wall night of beatnikkery and hepcat havoc. We’ll be celebrating the talent of local emerging and established writers, poets, and musicians with an open mic session from 9PM onwards, followed by an evening of smokey jazz and trippy psych with DJ sets from local cool cats Lupo and the hippest shop in town, Shop 33.
If that’s not enough, there will also be a Vintage Clothes and Records sale, as well as a selection of work available from the writers of Luton Haiku and Clod Magazine, which recently made its way into the Tate Modern!

We will be at Novacon again this year, which will be held Friday 14th to Sunday 16th November, once again at the Park Inn Hotel in Nottingham. We will also be launching Necropolis by Christopher Nuttall on Sunday morning at 11am in the downstairs bar.
Various of our authors and artists will be in attendance too:
Tanya Reimer will be the guest of Redvers Public Library in Redvers Saskatchewan on Thursday 27th November from 4pm to 7pm at a book party and signing to celebrate her first two books – Ghosts on the Prairies, a Sacred Land Story, published by Elsewhen Press (i.e. us) and Petrified published by Sunbury Press. Go along and help make it a great party.
We will be at this year’s Eastercon – Dysprosium 2015 at the Park Inn in Heathrow.
We have a whole room to ourselves, syndicate room 13 (luckily we’re not superstitious).
On Saturday 4th from 11:15 to 12:15 we’ll be running a Writers’ Workshop in the Armstrong room. If you’re coming to Dysprosium and are interested in reserving a place, let us know ASAP as space is limited. Details below:
Writers’ Workshop – Editing your masterpiece
Saturday 4th April 11:15-12:15
Elsewhen Press (Armstrong room)
This is a one-hour workshop intended for new unpublished writers. You’ve written your masterpiece, but no-one seems to be interested in reading it, let alone publishing it. Many submitted manuscripts are rejected out of hand because the author has clearly not performed even basic editing, proofreading or sanity-checking of their text. This workshop will identify the pitfalls of typical tools as well as common mistakes, and suggest helpful techniques to overcome them.
Mike French, founding editor of The View from Here literary magazine and author of the Dandelion Trilogy, also runs workshops for aspiring writers. As one of the authors published by Elsewhen Press, he has agreed to lead this workshop to help you to make sure that your work is ready for submitting to an agent or publisher. Elsewhen Press authors Christopher Nuttall (Bookworm series, Royal Sorceress series, Inverse Shadows series…), Peter R. Ellis (Seventh Child, The Power of Seven) and Dave Weaver (Jacey’s Kingdom, Japanese Daisy Chain, The Black Hole Bar) will also be on hand to offer advice and help, and an Elsewhen Press editor will also offer an insight into the publisher’s perspective. The workshop will be limited to twelve (12) attendees, pre-booking is essential and places will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
Attendees should bring with them a Speculative Fiction short story they have already completed or one that is close to completion, of between 2000 and 5000 words. During the workshop there will be the opportunity to edit your story with help and advice from Mike, Chris, Peter or Dave. You can either edit your piece in the workshop on your own laptop, or bring a printed copy and scribble on that! All attendees will be given the opportunity to subsequently submit a short story (by the end of May 2015) for critique and consideration for possible inclusion in a future anthology from Elsewhen Press.
If you wish to attend, please email pete@elsewhen.co.uk with your name (and badge name if that is different) before Tuesday 31st March.
Christopher Nuttall, author of books including The Royal Sorceress series, Bookworm series, A Life Less Ordinary, The Mind’s Eye, and Sufficiently Advanced Technology, will be at Ravencon in Richmond VA for the weekend of 24-26 April, taking part in some panels and signing books.
An Android Awakes, due to be published on Friday the 13th November 2015, will be available in advance exclusively at the Film and Comic Con Brighton on 7-8th November 2015.
With text by Mike French and art by Karl Brown, An Android Awakes charts the struggle for survival and the fate of a story teller in a future where culture is shaped by machines and the novel has been reduced to a thousand words.
The team responsible for this innovative combination of art and prose will be appearing on the Comic Zone Panel Programme to chat about the concept and creative process behind An Android Awakes. Immediately afterwards An Android Awakes will be launched and available for the first time in print.
Android Writer PD121928 is part of the Android Publishing Program. To replicate their idea of a writer’s life, his partner has been forcibly removed and he lives in solitude with an allowance for drugs and prostitutes. He also has just had his novel The Eating of Citizen Kane rejected. He has 14 more attempts to get a novel accepted for the humans by the Android Publishing Programme or he will be deactivated. Can one of his characters and their story save him?
Featuring Absolute Zero (the coolest spaceship ever built – literally), an ocean in the sky, sub-atomic particles, a Märchen zoo, android communion, naked angels and mockingbirds, An Android Awakes hurtles towards the shocking conclusion of Android Writer PD121928’s fate.
